Cameroon: Ecobank to invest XAF 25 billion in 3-year emergency plan

Business in Cameroon - Célestine Ketcha Courtès, Cameroon's Minister of Urban Development, presided over the relaunch of road works that are part of the three-year emergency plan. During the ceremony on June 26, 2019, in Yaoundé, the official indicated that President Paul Biya renewed Planut's financing agreement with "financial partner" Ecobank for an investment of XAF 25 billion that may be extended to XAF 60 billion. Célestine Ketcha Courtès called on company executives to submit project execution plans within 48 hours and site reviews at the end of each month. The engineering companies were also tasked with finding the workers. The three-year National Emergency Plan is financed by five banks, namely BGFI, Standard Chartered Bank, Banque Atlantique, Ecobank Deutsche Bank. In its 2018 budget implementation report, Cameroon's Ministry of Finance criticised the unclear spending on the National Three-Year Emergency Plan. The lack of clarification has a negative impact on the budget as Cameroon's Minister of Urban Development said: 'all these projects are paid for through cash advances, which generate a significant volume of debt that requires extensive budgetary coverage'.
