Lafarge-Holcim will open a new cement plant with a production capacity of 500,000 tonnes

Investing in Central Africa " In terms of investment, I think Nomayos is the most important. When we go to Nomayos today, almost 200 people are working, some Chinese and many Cameroonians.Civil engineering is well advanced, a new crusher is on the site. In less than a year, Nomayos will be producing.

2019, Lafarge-Holcim will open a new cement plant with a production capacity of 500,000 tonnes in Cameroon

This was said in an interview by Peter Damnon, former General Manager of Cameroon Cement Production (Cimencam), a local subsidiary of Lafarge, Holcim Group, who officially handed over his position to Benedict Galichet on 9 July 2018.

The good news about the construction of the Cimencam plant in Nomayos, is that it will be built in a location not far from the capital of Cameroon, was confirmed by the chairman of the company's board of directors. Cameroonian Pierre Moukoko Mbonjo.

” The good news is that early next year (2019, ed.), this plant will market its first bags of cement.

The new plant will have a production capacity of 500,000 tonnes per year, bringing the total production capacity of Cimencamthe company, after 48 years of monopoly, lost its leadership in Cameroon's cement market, less than two years after the opening of the Dangote Cement plant in the country in 2015.

In May 2016 the State of Cameroon and Lafarge-Holcim signed the investment agreement for this projectfor which a foundation stone-laying ceremony had already taken place on the site of the plant, in September 2011; only a few days after the construction of the Douala Dangote cement plant began, which went into operation in 2015.

Justifying the delay in the start-up of this new cement plant, Pierre Moukoko Mbonjo said during the signing of the agreement with the state of Cameroon:

"industrial procedures take a long time'. Before clarifying: "There have been discussions with the state on fiscal and administrative matters. The bottom line is that the project is maturing today and this signing of the agreement will finally allow work to begin and will be completed in 2018. “

This investment, totalling 23 billion CFA francs, finally benefited from the provisions of the 2013 law (revised in 2017) "which provide incentives for private investment in the Republic of Cameroon "The law grants significant tax exemptions (5 to 10 years) to economic operators, both during the installation and production phases of their companies.
