The Umbrian Piccini Group will build the new stadium and sports citadel in Yaoundé, the capital of Cameroon where the final phase of the African Cup of Nations will take place between the end of 2018 and the beginning of 2019.
The agreement has become operational thanks to the credit granted directly to the African country by Intesa Sanpaolo, reports the same bank, a historical partner of the company, for a total value of €212.2 million, which will cover 85% of the expenses to build what will become the most important sports facility in the African country for a total cost of €250 million.
In fact, the structure will not only include the stadium, which can hold up to 60,000 spectators, but also training spaces and commercial properties in a vision defined as absolutely innovative.
The Piccini Group has long been involved with projects in developing countries and Africa in particular.
Cameroon's first five-star hotel will be Italian. The Kristal Palace will be built in Douala, the country's economic capital. It will have 240 rooms and will bear a double "made in Italy" signature: that of the Milan interior design studio Premoli Silva, which realised the project, and that of Tecno Spa, as general contractor. Each piece of furniture is inspired by the country's cultural tradition, from the use of iroko, wengee and zebrano woods to the graphics of Bamikeke fabrics. All revisited, however, in a modern key and dedicated to a decidedly business audience.
Work has already begun on the hotel, as has the construction of the sports citadel and stadium in the capital Yaoundé, which will host the 2019 edition of the African Cup of Nations: the maxi-project, in the form of a public-private partnership, has been assigned to the Italian company Piccini, while Pizzarotti is already at work to build a new 120,000-housing residential district from scratch, using the social housing formula
