A river that flows into the sea through cataracts, if you want to visit the falls, when you get to the beach you can take a dugout canoe to see a unique place:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>the only waterfalls in the world that flow directly into the sea: the Lob\u00e9 Falls.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/aedic.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/cascate-lobe-camerun.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10513\" title=\"\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Kribi is naturally referred to as the most beautiful Riviera in Cameroon. <strong>Very often it happens, that tourists return after an initial trip.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>With all these wonders of nature<\/strong>, <strong>Kribi has gradually developed a wide range of tourist infrastructure to suit all budgets.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In terms of dining, these range from neighbourhood taverns specialising in local or national dishes to high-class restaurants that meet international standards, and in terms of accommodation, from small, discreet hostels to 3-star hotels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Mamy_Water\"><\/span><strong>Mamy Water<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Kribi is a city on the sea and river. Here you can find all kinds of water: rainwater, sea water and river water. The most common legend, that of <strong>\" Mamy Water \"<\/strong>is related to water. L<strong>legend has it that the waters of this country are full of mermaids.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"512\" src=\"https:\/\/aedic.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/image-76-1024x512.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14817\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/aedic.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/image-76-1024x512.png 1024w, https:\/\/aedic.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/image-76-300x150.png 300w, https:\/\/aedic.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/image-76-768x384.png 768w, https:\/\/aedic.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/image-76-18x9.png 18w, https:\/\/aedic.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/image-76.png 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The local culture of Kribi is deeply intertwined with water, a central element in popular traditions and beliefs. One of the most fascinating legends is that of 'Mamy Water', a mythological figure widespread in much of West and Central Africa. The name 'Mamy Water' comes from the English <strong>'Mother Water'<\/strong> and refers to aquatic spirits often represented as mermaids or female entities with marine characteristics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>According to legend, the waters of Kribi are inhabited by these mysterious creatures<\/strong>Mamy Water is considered both benevolent and malignant depending on the circumstances. It is believed that 'Mamy Water' can bring good luck, prosperity and healing to those who worship and respect her, but also misfortune to those who disrespect her or pollute her waters. Folk tales tell of fishermen who, after offering gifts and prayers to 'Mamy Water', had abundant catches or were saved from sudden storms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>This mythological figure plays a significant role in local rituals and ceremonies.<\/strong> In some communities, annual festivals are organised in his honour, during which dances, songs and offerings are held along the river banks or on the beach. These celebrations not only strengthen the bond between the people and the water, but also serve to promote the <strong>social cohesion<\/strong> and passing on ancestral traditions to new generations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The legend of 'Mamy Water' also reflects the importance of water as a source of life and prosperity. In many African cultures, water is a symbol of purification, regeneration and spiritual connection. The presence of myths linked to water spirits underlines the respect and reverence that communities have for water resources, recognising their crucial role in survival and collective well-being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Besides its rich cultural heritage, Kribi also offers natural attractions of great interest. These include the <strong>waterfalls of Lob\u00e9<\/strong> are particularly remarkable: here the Lob\u00e9 River plunges directly into the Atlantic Ocean, creating a unique natural spectacle. This place is shrouded in an aura of sacredness and mystery, often associated with stories of 'Mamy Water' and other water spirits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Comune_di_Kribi\"><\/span>Kribi Municipality<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In demographic terms, with a population of around 40,000, Kribi has a very ancient history. In fact, in addition to the pygmies, the first inhabitants of the region who now live in small villages in the forest, two ethnic groups, the Batanga and the Mabi, originated in the country. The Iyassa or Ndoe, the Mvae, the Ewondo, the Bassa, the Boulou, the Ngoumba and the Fang are all from the<strong> Ocean Division<\/strong> and live peacefully with other ethnic groups from other regions of the <strong>Cameroon.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/aedic.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/kribi-spiaggia-camerun.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10516\" title=\"\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Besides fishing, a traditional activity,<strong> cocoa cultivation<\/strong> has become the main economic activity since colonial times. On a historical and cultural level, the first German missionaries and traders landed in Kribi in 1889 and traded salt, ivory, rubber... <strong>The original name Kikiribi<\/strong> is said to mean small man and is said to be the name given by the settlers to a native of small stature with bowed legs. The native then adopted the name and passed it on to his family and the people of Lohove. Over time, the name became Kribi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Batanga<\/strong>under their leader, <strong>King Madola,<\/strong> fiercely resisted the Germans. This could explain their exile in 1914 in the south-west region. Only in 1916 did the <strong>Batanga<\/strong> were brought back home after being massacred, caught between Allied bombardments and German counter-attacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>This return has been celebrated for more than 91 years in Kribi.<\/strong> On 14 February and 9 May, the Batanga people celebrate their grandparents' return from exile at the end of the First World War.
